OFFICIAL Card - Portugal

It is funny sometimes when you receive a card and you can't even remember they last time you "saw" that country. Portugal, Spain, Brazil - they all fall into that category for me. The ID numbers never seem to be that far off from the Canadian count so it makes me wonder if Canada is on the "rare" side for some receivers too. This card arrived early November and was a full year since I received an official from that country. Diana wrote a great message about the state of affairs at her house having moved the month before and the day she was having. A great map and views- thank you!

Greetings from Portugal - Direct Swap with Edite

Another swap I made through the Postcrossing Facebook page, this time with Edite from Lisbon. I was so happy that she had this card, getting that much closer to completing my collection. She took the time to write out some basic words and phrases in Portuguese for me. Thank you!

Catarina lives on the island of Porto Santo off the coast of Portugal. She sent this card showing the house where Christopher Columbus once lived which is now a museum. She sent the card in an envelope and I must say this is one of the prettiest stamps I have ever seen.

This lovely black and white card of Porto Covo, Portugal arrived earlier in the week from Carlos who lives in Lisbon. He wrote saying he missed the sun and the summer. Same here! In the last week alone we have gone from -19C to +14C back to -11C today. Talk about Mother Nature being confused!?!? Even with the little bits of sun that we have had it makes me long for a beautiful beach like this one.

Ana lives outside of Lisbon and sent this card showing the famous boats transporting Port wine on the River Douro. I like how the card has just a splash of colour on the black and white. She also used a stamp from the London Para-Olympic Games.

Random Act of Smiliness - Lynda from Canada

Back in July I attended my first Postcrossing meet-up. Lynda was the fantastic lady who organized the afternoon. In September, she was travelling to Portugal and close to her departure her travel partner had to cancel. She sent me (and I am guessing others) an email asking if we wanted to join her. Back in the glory days of travelling I would have jumped at the chance, but seeing as she was leaving the first day of school I knew I couldn't get time off from my job {grin}. What a lovely surprise then to receive this card from her last week. She wrote telling me she had a bit of a stumble while sight seeing, but the Port wine she was enjoying helped to remedy any pain she having! This is a really neat shaped card showing the tiles that Portugal is famous for.

Paula from Lisbon, Portugal sent me this multi-view last September. The card shows views of Madeira Island. Love how blue the water is.

Domingos a philosophy teacher from Lisbon, Portugal sent me this card last December.  He wrote telling me there are three important things in his country - the people, the tiles and the wine. The card he chose to send me shows 18th century tile showing the boats of Oporto's wine in the Douro River. Oporto is an UNESCO site. Quite stunning. The Christmas stamp is really sweet too.

My first card from Portugal came last April thank to Rosa Maria in Lisbon. This is a wonderful view of her city. In the background you can see the Castle of Sao Jorge. The card came in an envelope and while no stamp it has one of the most elaborate air mail stickers I've ever seen.
