Random Act of Smiliness - Genek from Denmark

I know I have said this before - monarchies have some really good looking people in them! Genek was offering cards of the Danish Royal Family. The card shows Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, his wife Mary and their four children. I am a sucker for a good romance most days and their story is certainly a good one! Now if I can only get Genek's address to send something to thank him in return.

Lottery Win - Hilarie from USA

Hilarie was hosting a lottery to guess the country her 1000th official card was sent to. I got it right with Australia. Just don't ask me to pick a number, guess an age, etc - those I am sure to lose! This card is one she picked up on a visit to the Postal Museum in Copenhagen. A shaped card is always a nice break from the expected rectangle. Also, never received the sewing machine stamp before - sewing for 40+ years so that was a nice surprise. Thank you Hilarie for making this lottery win extra special!

 

OFFICIAL Card - Denmark

I received this card at the beginning of March from Rita. I really like both maps and flags so it was a real treat to get two of my wishes in one card! Cards from Denmark are somewhat rare too, so to receive one from this country was another bonus!!

Today I mailed out 8 cards. The countries I sent to were Germany, Russia, Netherlands, Finland, USA, Ukraine, Latvia and Switzerland. I only send cards out out once at the beginning of the week. I had lots of travelling postcards received over the past 7 days so it kept me busy writing so many cards at once.

OFFICIAL Card - Netherlands

Today I received this card from Norbert.  While it doesn't have a date on it, it certainly seems vintage to me and is a picture of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. She has been the Monarch since 1972 and is currently 71 years old.

Norbert sent it in an envelope so that is why it may appear to have minimal "travel lines". With it he included the front page of his local newspaper just for fun. While I can't read a word of Dutch it is interesting to see just how different it looks from ours. First, it is much wider and second on two pages there is only one advertisement. Ours would have had too many more! The stamps he chose were all new to me, the numbers especially are fun. One he explains dates back to 1991 (pre-Euro) and features a Nobel Prize winning Chemist.

Also, today two of the cards I sent on Monday - one to Germany and the other to Italy were both received. Never ceases to amaze me that a postcard can travel halfway around the world in 4 days!
