Japan from JJ

My brother in law was over in Sapporo, Japan in March covering the World Curling Championships. He sent me this unique card showing the Sapporo TV Tower. The solid black sky background and the blue in the foreground are all "flat" and then all other parts of the print on the card are just slightly raised and textured. Don't know if my explanation makes sense but it is very cool!

Florida from Veronica

This Spring my sister had the chance to go away with her girlfriends to Florida. She picked these cards up for me and tried to find a post office with no luck. I am happy to know she thought of me. She had a great time and so did we! My nieces were here for 5 nights and it couldn't have been more fun - and easy!

China from JJ

Most weeks I can't keep up with my brother in law, he is literally, here, there - everywhere! Shortly after he returned from Sochi he was off to Beijing. He sent the kids and I these beautiful cards showing Great Wall of China. One of the most fascinating places I have been. The size and steepness is truly astounding. This also happens to be a UNESCO site.

Sochi Olympics from JJ

This past February my brother in law JJ was over in Russia covering curling for the Sochi Games. He has been involved with the television crew for most of the Olympic Games held in the past 20 years. He sent the kids and I these wonderful postcards. I really like the colourful designs that were used throughout the Games and border these cards. So fun and fresh! My nieces got the coolest backpacks in this material, kind of like a crazy quilt! The cards are super and I love JJ's choice of stamp.

Mexico from Fiona

I might receive postcards most days, but it certainly isn't everyday that a postcard arrives addressed to "Auntie SuSu". Needless to say, I was super excited when this set of cards arrived for me a few weeks ago. My sister and her family travelled to Mexico in October. Yes, October, as in 5 months ago. Both my sister and I had somewhat given up on these cards. Funny then that they both arrive on the same day after months of travelling. Only one card is cancelled and while smudged to me it looks like the date is 11012014 - January 11, 2014 - even months after they returned home. One of the many mysteries in the postcard world that we will never know the answer to. All I know is that the resort and trip that my niece Fiona shared with me sounds dreamy. I missed you too, so glad you had fun! xox

Germany from JJ

Neuschwanstein Castle has been one of those famous landmarks I have been hoping to receive ever since I joined Postcrossing. I think it is just so beautiful and stunning!!! Well my wish came true, my brother in law was working in Germany in December and sent this to me. He wrote me one morning sitting in the sun having a coffee  - doesn't sound any better than that! As always appreciate you finding the time in your busy days JJ xo!

Norway from JJ

My brother in law certainly racks up the travel points! Already a month into the New Year and he has been in as many different cities for work and leaves next week for Sochi. At the end of November he was in Stavanger, Norway covering the World Curling Championships. Lucky for me he took the time to send me this card. He wrote saying it was VERY expensive - anywhere from $17-25 for a beer. Good thing you were so busy on the job! Thanks JJ!

Latvia from JJ

Drumroll please....here is is.....my first card of "the LV from the LV!!!" To better understand my excitement pop over here for a quick read.

My brother in law JJ sent this great multi-view of Riga when he was over in Latvia for work in March. He said there were lots of great old buildings, good bars and restaurants (in that order!) and friendly people. Love the stamp he chose, while the letters might be too tiny to read in the scan (laimīgu jauno gadu), if I have Google translated correctly it reads "Happy New Year!" Fun!!!

Sweden from JJ

My brother in law has what many people would think is the coolest job. Even after all these years I don't know that I fully understand what he does but do think it is pretty neat. He does live television editing. The cool part is that he primarily does sports television. Don't get me started on the places he has been - almost every Summer and Winter Olympic Games from Lillehammer, Norway to Vancouver in 2010,  Qatar, all over the US and Canada, Russia, China and more hockey and baseball games than even he can probably remember. So many sporting events, so many missed postcards! Who knew when he went to many of these places I would have found Postcrossing.

At the beginning of December he went to Karlsstad, Sweden to cover the European Curling Championships. Seeing as this was a country I had yet to receive a postcard from I took this opportunity and asked my sister to have him send me a card. I was super excited when this card arrived last week. After my initial excitement, I'll admit I was momentarily confused, you see my "other" friend J.J. hadn't mentioned she was going to Sweden and I thought her handwriting looked different. Took me a second to clue in that it was my "first" JJ that sent it....yes, call me slow! The tag line on the back of the card is great -"Karlstad - The city of sun, flowers and boat-buses". The drawing shows The old Stone Bridge. JJ worked most of the time he was there (as usual) but said what he did see was very pretty. Rumour has it Latvia and Norway are on the curling tour next - maybe we will be hearing more from JJ - hint hint!
