I have always loved the Olympic Games and have since they were held in Montreal in 1976. I can remember being glued to the TV over the years for both the winter and summer games watching as much coverage of the events as I could. When they came to Calgary in 1988 I learnt of the opportunity to be part of the Torch Relay but for whatever reason did not act upon it. In 2009, not letting the opportunity slip by again I entered a contest every day for 111 days that was sponsored by Coke to be one of 12,500 Olympic Torchbearers. Over 2 million people applied - nine months, 1 skill testing question and 2 essays later and guess what (hint - take a look at my avatar!) Yes - I was selected to carry the Olympic Torch!!! A thrill, an honour, a privilege and an opportunity to teach my kids that as big as it might seem your goals are attainable. As we were told that day - you would be the sole person responsible in the world for the flame for 300 metres - talk about a bit of pressure LOL! Here is the start of my run - a moment that still gives me goosebumps even as I watch this today.
So today in the mail I receive this fabulous card from Elisa in southern Finland. It shows the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki. A building I have actually seen as part of my high school trip so many moons ago. It is a super card that has made me revisit so many wonderful memories. It always makes me feel kind of extra special when a Postcrosser sends me a card like this that perfectly matches with one of my wish-list items. A great card and a great way to end the mail week! The stamp is also fun - reminds me of Angry Birds!
